I like this article very much, basically it a survey /poll done by SEOmoz , 37 leading professional in search engine optimization field expressed their opinion about few factors and their importance in search engine optimization. I arranged this factors in decreasing order of their importance in Google Ranking Algorithm.

Top 10 Positive Factors for SEO

1. Keyword Use in Title Tag

I completely agree that Title Tag is very important , not just very important but one of the most important onsite factor for SEO. You should try to put up the primary keywords in the beginning of the Title Tag and the length of title should not be more than 85 characters. Put the emphases on primary keywords in the beginning. This tag should not be less than 5 words and not more than twelve word. Though lengthy title will not affect negatively in SEO, but i believe only starting 85 characters (around 12 words will be counted for seo purpose).

2. Anchor Text of Inbound Link

According to me this should be the Most important Factor in SEO, after the Google Bombing Experiment Revealed that the level upto which Anchor text of Inbound Link can affect the Google Ranking is Infinite, means if you have a page about a topic (let say Celebs) and you got thousands of backlinks with Anchor Text “SEO Tips” then you may get rank very high for the keyword “SEO Tips” , although you don’t have the word “SEO Tips” in your entire page , not even a single time.

So I believe that even in the current days in the existing Google algorithm , Anchor Text of Inbound Link is the Most important for SEO.

3. Global Link Popularity of Site

This point is very good and a well known fact, that getting a backlink from a good reputed website is always better than a new , non popular website. This is the reason why SEO Professionals says ” 100 Quality Backlinks are better than 1000 Non Quality Backlinks”. The big question is how Google decide the quality of a website. Its mainly by three ways

  • Pagerank of the website/ page

  • Trustrank of the website

  • Its Age

Out of these three ways, I believe now a days Page rank of backlinking website is very important. This is the reason why high PR backlinks can be sold very a reasonable price (check DigitalPoint Forum for many such Link Sell/Buy Offers)

4. Age of Site

I agree with this but not completely. According to me this should not one of the Top 10 Factors affecting ranking. Its important factor for only new websites, but I don’t think that a website which is 4 years old cant compete with a 6 year old website. Its not true at all. To the new websites i agree that due to the so called Sandbox Period , they get hurt by Google. This is something I never believed . 5. Link Popularity within the Site’s Internal Link Structure

Another important Factor in Search Engine Ranking. This one is important not only for GoogleBot but also for Users of your website. It is obvious that you will try to link up your important page from all the pages so that users can find the important page (let say home page or products/ services page).

6. Topical Relevance of Inbound Links to Site

Getting Backlinks from Similar /Related website is always better than getting a backlink from a website which not related to your website’s subject. But there is a very important point which SEOmoz specialist missed to disclose, links from a non-similar website are not bad in fact they are good for high rank (may not be in comparison to similar website’s link) but still they are good. The so called thing that “links from non-similar website are useless” ITS COMPLETELY WRONG.

7. Link Popularity of Site in Topical Community

The link weight/authority of the target website amongst its topical peers in the online world, agree that it is an important factor. But in the current Google algorithm its not very important factor, it might become more important after Google will try their new AI (Artificial Intelligence ) Algorithm.

8. Keyword Use in Body Text

Another very important factor in Onsite Optimization, this is simply the keyword density. As I mention in one of my article on Sitepoint Forum that Keyword density is something which can be easily manipulated. Its simply Number of time a keyword appear on the page divided by Total Number of words in the page (calculated in %). The optimum value is 5% and for getting considered a word as a keyword I suggest to use the of primary keyword in different phrases thus by making its density atleast 2.5%. But as I said earlier Over Optimization is worst case ,so never increase your Keyword Density above 8%  otherwise search engines may put up some penalty on you for keyword stuffing.

9. Global Link Popularity of Linking Site

I have already discuss this point in point 3 “Global Link Popularity of Site” as mention above.

10. Topical Relationship of Linking Page

Its not that much important factor, I don’t know why SEOmoz put up this factor in Top 10 Important factor for SEO.
